Kathmandu: Event Management Association has provided cash and food assistance worth approximately Rs 150,000 to journalists Kiran Adhikari and Sunny Shrestha of Nuwakot, who were affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
The relief assistance was handed over during a program held in Kathmandu with the objective of providing immediate support to the two journalists facing difficulties following the disaster.
Speaking at the relief handover program, Rajendra Luitel, President of the Event Management Association, said standing with disaster victims during times of crisis is a shared humanitarian responsibility.
“Disasters do not discriminate. Supporting people in distress during such difficult times is our humanitarian responsibility. Journalists are constantly working to bring the suffering and problems of others to the attention of society. When they themselves are affected, it is our duty to stand by them,” Luitel said.
He said the assistance should not be viewed merely as relief but also as an expression of solidarity, empathy and social responsibility toward those affected by the disaster.
The Bhotekoshi floods have affected not only local residents but also journalists and other media professionals in the affected areas, both directly and indirectly. Participants at the program emphasized the need to provide support and encouragement to journalists who continue to fulfill their professional responsibilities and keep the public informed even during disasters.
The relief handover program was attended by Trishna Gurung, Vice President of the Event Management Association; Sonit Raj Dhungel, General Secretary; Manoj Thapa, Treasurer; and other office-bearers and members of the association.
Also present at the event were actor Shreedev Bhattarai, hotel entrepreneur Shova Gurung, artist DJ Yuba, renowned makeup artist Tekraj Pandey, Sumit Rajak, Rahul Banjade, among others.
Association officials attending the program stressed that during times of disaster, the private sector, various organizations and civil society should, alongside the government, contribute according to their capacity to support rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Program Management Association said it would continue humanitarian and social assistance programs as part of its social responsibility initiatives in the days ahead.
Journalists Kiran Adhikari and Sunny Shrestha expressed their gratitude to the Event Management Association and all those involved for extending support and standing by them during the difficult situation.
