A grand cultural event marked by humor, music, and a strong sense of community was successfully held in Calgary, Canada. Titled “Comedy and Live Dohori Night”, the event was enthusiastically conducted under the banner of Matribhoomi Melody Arts , offering a vibrant showcase of Nepali art, culture, humor, and harmony among the diaspora community.

The program was managed and coordinated under the leadership of Ramesh Adhikari, with the active involvement of a dedicated team of volunteers. From entrance management to stage operations, the volunteers played an outstanding role. Waste management, food and beverage coordination, lighting, ceremonial lamps, and social media handling were all executed in an organized and efficient manner.

The event was formally inaugurated by Mitralaal Sapkota and Adal Kumari Sapkota, who lit the traditional lamp (diya). Nepali national anthem was performed by children, followed by the Canadian national anthem played via audio track. Buddha Adhikari delivered the welcome speech, and distinguished members of various communities were honored with traditional Nepali scarves (khada).

The event was graced by the presence of representatives from NRNA Canada, leaders of cultural organizations, Nepali entrepreneurs, and social activists residing in Canada.

Major highlights of the evening included solo and group performances by Sara Devkota, Annu Mathema, Meena Ji, Singh Khadka, and Sangita Thapa Magar. Special stand-up comedy acts were delivered by renowned comedian Manoj Gajurel and Sharmila Ranabhat, while live dohori (folk duet singing) performances kept the audience fully engaged. Audience members were also invited to take part in the dohori, adding to the vibrancy of the show.

Sponsors of various tiers were acknowledged and honored with scarves and tokens of appreciation.

The roles of Himalayan Moos Restaurant, RJ Prajwal, Tejas Shrestha, and Hemant Maharjan were commendable in the areas of photography, videography, sound, and food management.

Towards the end, Rajendra Chongbang and Dharma Ji were invited on stage for a formal vote of thanks.

Participants expressed that the event beautifully reflected the spirit of Nepali identity in a foreign land, strengthening the preservation of culture and fostering deeper community unity.
