The feature film “Chey” is set to have a special screening in Hong Kong on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Yau Ma Tei Community Hall. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Purweli Homestay Hall in Koteshwor on Tuesday.
According to Bhavendra Thamsuhang, senior vice president of Yakthung Munchit Chok Sayang Hong Kong, the organization is hosting the screening. He shared that the group has been actively organizing various programs to support its campaign of providing social security allowances to Limbu artists.
Additional international screenings have also been scheduled — October 4, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea, and November 27, 2025, in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The film tells the powerful story of how the Limbu community is being gradually erased — both physically and culturally. It highlights the tension between modern development and the destruction of cultural heritage, focusing on the displacement of Yakthung ancestral burial grounds, which has emerged as a critical issue for the community.
