Kathmandu, June: The ‘Event Management Association’ has asked landlords for a rent discount. The Event Management Association (EMAN) has issued a press release, requesting them to provide 50 percent discount on rent as the entertainment sector, which has been working directly for personality development as well as beauty pageants of various titles, fashion shows, award ceremonies and other events, is in a state of displacement due to the Corona pandemic. EMAN has urged landlords to provide a minimum of 50 percent or full discount on rent from the beginning of the lockdown to mid-June.

The press release states that our businessmen are not unaware of the fact that the main source of income of most landlords is rent, but in such a difficult situation, it seems possible for businessmen to continue their business with confidence only by giving more discount on rent. Otherwise, it does not seem that it will take long for most businessmen in this sector to be displaced, their houses will remain vacant for a long time, and their income will be cut off.

Issuing a press release, the entertainment industry has been affected due to the lockdown and the government has also banned programs, so as to stop business and income sources, it has requested a fifty percent discount on house rent. The association has also expressed its commitment to continue working together in the future, expecting the support and cooperation of the landlords in this time of crisis. The association has also appealed to the Government of Nepal to create an environment for organizing programs as soon as possible and to lift the restrictions imposed by the state as soon as possible. The association has also requested the member companies to announce a relief package and support considering the inconvenience caused. It has also urged all the event organizers to coordinate with their landlords and pay attention to how to move forward in the coming days.

This business, which was just emerging from the 2072 BS earthquake, has been further affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and various entertainment event businesses have been completely affected by the educational sector and public transportation, which are closed due to the global lockdown in Nepal and other countries. Business has been so badly affected that it will take at least a year from the date of reopening of schools, colleges, public transport and function halls, according to ‘Iman’ president Lab Bahadur Karki. The association has also requested that people take precautions and move forward safely as there has been no government decision regarding the organization of events.
