Kathmandu: Election fever has begun to rise among film artists. Amid this, veteran actor Uttam KC has announced his candidacy for the अध्यक्ष (President) of the Film Artists’ Association. He made the announcement through social media.

His candidacy has received support from senior artists, including former association president Rabindra Khadka. The 21st General Assembly of the association is scheduled to take place on Chaitra 28 (mid-April), where a new 17-member executive committee will be elected.

To be eligible to vote, members must renew their membership by Chaitra 17. Preparations are also underway to form the election committee prior to the assembly.

According to the association, there are around 2,500 members in total, including those who have yet to renew their membership. Established in 1998 (2055 B.S.), the association operates with a three-year tenure.

KC, who has had a long journey from theatre to films, was active in stage drama even before the establishment of television in Nepal. Passionate about the arts from an early age, he began acting during his school years.

He has appeared in more than 200 telefilms and made his film debut with Aadarsha Nari. Over the years, he has acted in more than 250 films, including PukarMohaniJwalaJanmabhumiBalramChamatkarChandalChakravyuh, the Nai Nabhannu La series, HostelBokuro, and Jhinge Dau–2.

KC continues to remain active in acting and is especially popular for his signature catchphrase “Chui-Chui.” This identity originated from his role as “Uttam Kaka” in the television serial Jeevan Chakra.

Apart from his acting career, KC has also been actively involved in institutional roles. He is a former member of the Film Development Board and has previously served as an executive member, joint treasurer, and secretary of the association.

In addition, he has experience working in the administrative sector under the Government of Nepal.
